Three days trip in Lake Tana walking through coffee plantation and ancient monasteries among the forests of the islands

Lake Tana is the sea that Ethiopia does not have. It has a unique charm: islands, verdant forests and isolated monasteries rich in art and spirituality. We will walk from village to village in the Zeghe peninsula, among churches, coffee plantations and markets. Boat trip up to an island where there is a church with wonderful paintings and an ancient monastery in a lush forest. The mood of this trip is walking and relaxing in the nature and deepen the culture and people’s spirituality.

Day 1. Addis Abeba – Bahar Dar. Early in the morning flight to Bahar Dar; enjoy the shady boulevards, fruit juices and a fish dinner by the lake. Night at Jacaranda Hotel

Day 2. Lake Tana. Navigation up to Zeghe Peninsula and walking from Azua Mariam church through the tropical vegetation and the coffee plantation up to Ura Kidane Meheret, that has got a unique collection of holy books; keep on walking up to the Saturday market of Afaf. Lunch at local restaurant and come back to Bahar Dar. Night at Jacaranda Hotel

Day 3. Lake Tana – Addis Abeba. Navigation up to Dek island and visit the Gondarine paintings of Narga Selassie church; walking through the forest up to the little known church of Arsema and the forest around Dega Estifanos. Go back to Bahar Dar and fly back to Addis Ababa by evening.
