An unusual way to visit Omo Valley: walking amongst Buska mountains and isolated Hamer villages.

Buska montains divides the Weyto river valley from the Omo river one. The Hamer shepherds, the largest ethnic group of Omo valley, lives in different villages spread around these mountains We will spend three days walking in the paths of the pastures sleeping close to the villages and meeting the communities.

Day 1. Addis Abeba flight to Arba Minch. Flight in the morning and arrival in Arba Minch, the town of “forty springs”. The town overlooks both the Chamo lake and the Abaya lake, and the park of Nec Sar “white grass”, one of the most beautiful faunistic Ethiopian parks. In the afternoon boat excursion on Chamo lake, to see crocodiles and hyppos.

Day 2. Arba Minch, start of trekking (220 km, 5-hours’ trekking): Lala-Buska. In the morning departure for Buska mountains and arrival in Lala, the first Hamer village where our trek starts from (8 km -4 hours). It is a quick trek with some climbs, walking in a green environment, with huge Ficus and Acacias. Camping on a little hill near the village chief’s tukul.

Day 3. Trekking Buska-Kufri (10 km 5 hours). Trekking on the ridge, walking up and down green hills with a wide view on the horizon over Turmi plane, we will cross an area with Hamer graves. Camping.

Day 4. Trekking Kufri-Deja Keja (4 km 2 hours) – Turmi. Few hours’ trekking to reach Deja Keja, the last village of our trekking. We will get to Turmi by off-road cars on a market day (if on Mondays-Saturdays-Tuesdays-Thursdays).

Day 5. Turmi -Jinka. Departure for Omorate and Desanch villages bordering with Kenya. Desanech people live on farming and fishing on the Omo river and its delta on Turkana lake. In the afternoon departure for Jinka.

Day 6. Jinka -Addis Abeba. In the morning we will set off for Mursi villages bordering the Mago national park. Return to Jinka and flight to Addis.
